Treasure hunting in an old house is so exciting!! I have already found several goodies, but this weekend I decided to brave the spider webs and check out the crawl space. It ended up being a very worth while trip! Check out this old saw blade:
I knew this would have to be painted and turned into something cute to hang on the wall at the Katie J Ski Chalet! It was pretty rusty and muddy from where it was laying in the crawl space.
I cleaned it up a little bit with a wire brush. I wanted to leave some of the rust, so I brushed lightly until I had the look I wanted:
I then drew my pattern and words on the blade with a pencil. It didn’t show up on the blade as well as I thought it would, but it worked.
I used acrylic paint from the craft store and two little paint brushes, one with a flat edge and one that had a pointed end. With these I was able to get the straight edges as well as the thin little lines.
Finished product:
I sprayed a thin coat of a clear sealant over the top to protect the paint!
The pencil marks were hard to see, so my letters didn’t get spaced out quite as perfectly as I hoped they would be, but I think it turned out pretty well for my first try! It will definitely be hanging at the Katie J Ski Chalet! It will be fun to re-purpose some of the antique ‘artifacts’ from the house and keep them there.
